As a programmer I always viewed database development and web development as two sides of the same coin. You can have the most beautiful interface design that will make you the envy of marketing departments everywhere, but without the data it means nothing. On the flip side of that, you could be in compliance with the twelve Codd rules have a pretty dodgy user experience. For me though, it starts with the data.
I am primarily a SQL Server person. SQL Server is what I used when I learned about database development; and it’s what I use at work. I have recently transitioned from a web developer and database developer to a DBA. At work I am involved in a data warehouse project that’s very exciting indeed. Now can you be any more of a geek by having your excitement level rise when thinking about data warehouses?
